Well, we have been neglecting our blog! We are still active, with 2 new members. Tomorrow, May 2, we will have 2 booths at the Ash Fork Pioneer Days Celebration at the museum.
At our last meeting we did compression dying of a silk and a cotton handkerchief. Patti Van Horn led us ably through the process, which is very engaging. We will soon post pictures of the whole process.

Ted Coleman - Short Biography

I'm originally from a small city in Connecticut on the north shore of
Long Island Sound. After high school I spent four years in the Air
Force and then went to Southern Connecticut State College in New Haven.
I graduated in 1965 with a degree in Art Education and spent most of my life teaching Arts and Crafts although I did teach Special education for about eight years.
I retired in 2004 and moved to west Juniperwood. I have met some very nice people here in the time I have lived here.

Patti Van Horn - Show May, 2008

This is a photo of a show the Art Guild did in May of this year in Ash Fork. Here you can see my transition from the glass into the silk and cloth painting. There are paintings on silk, oil painting, batik and color charts where I am learning to use the dye colors. The painting on the silk and cotton is an exciting new world sometimes very difficult but always fun. A constant learning experience!

Recycled Relics - Susan Wagner

Since I am the author of this blog, my profile is already posted. Just to add - in college, "back in the day," I studied drawing and painting. But this was the sixties, and I dropped out before graduating. Then I raised six amazing human beings - truly my life's great creative work! Became a massage therapist and always did something by way of artistic expression.

In the last two years I started making "icons" from rusted #10 restaurant tin cans. The patinas created by nature captured my imagination. Embellishing the surface with beads and paints is a very special, almost sacred process. First I made crosses, then mandalas and hearts, and winged hearts.

The word Mandala means magic circle in Sanskrit. They have been drawn throughout the ages by many peoples of the world. The Mandala represents the cosmos and the unification of duality. They create sacred space and foster inner peace, so are great for a meditation area.

Patti is an accomplished artist who works in many different media - water color, acrylics, as well as years in stained glass and recently she is broadening her beautiful visions into painted silk.

We, the artists and crafters of the Ash Fork Creative and Performing Arts Guild, who I affectionately call the Ash Fork Art Group, are 13 members strong as of today. Our pursuits range from scrap booking and card making to stained glass, lamp work glass beads, silver jewelry, photography, painting, chocolate art, recycled tin art, exceptional soap making,cheese making and on and on. We hope to have all our members presented here on the blog. Our president, Karen Peters, has visions of us doing plays and singing as well as working in the visual and three dimensional arts.
